Photomontage
involves the addition of computer generated 3d models and materials to existing
digital
photographs for a multitude of architectural design and
communication purposes.
As well as aiding an architect or developer to communicate
their design
to key audiences, photomontage images provide a real advantage
to aid planning applications by providing a clear view of the
impact of a new site to existing surroundings and environment.
We apply real world elements and characteristics
such as physical elements, materials, textures, colours and
lighting to images in order to allow a representative 'before'
and 'after' effect for a new development or building.
Our extensive experience includes all commercial, business and
residential projects including public spaces and public interest
projects.

Photomontage - Further Information
Our photomontage services will suit a range of projects and
needs from sales and marketing, planning and also design
development. The information below provides more information
about photomontage and also the main uses for photomontage
output.
What is Photomontage?
Photomontage is the process of merging information and images
from a range of formats to create a single image.
It allows us to assist planners, developers, agents and
contractors to present a finished site way before any work may
have started on a site – and in some cases before funding is
even realized.
We do this by using high quality digital images of the site
showing pre-existing areas of the site and then merging these
with images taken from 3d Cad models that we have created. These
models will depict the proposed development in detailed
photorealistic accuracy. By combining digital images and our
models seamlessly – the effect is of an image of a finished
site.
We use the latest and most sophisticated technology available
for creating photomontage images including the latest modelling
and rendering tools and latest image and graphic development
software.
Even when there is a need to change the weather conditions or
lighting of an image – we have the capability and the experience
to achieve the required appearance for all images types.
The information below provides further information about how and
where we use photomontage.
Planning Applications & Appeals
Our planning application knowledge and experience is extensive
and we have completed several photomontage projects to satisfy
local planning committees across the UK. By understanding the
outline planning, detailed planning and planning appeals process
we are able to tailor our solutions for a specific planning
problem area.
The effect of photomontage images for a street scene or a
streetscape greatly enhances the ability of a planning committee
to understand and eventually approve a project. Compared to
traditional 2d drawings and elevations which are quite technical
in nature, a 3d image actually presents more information and is
more useful.
Our photomontage images will typically detail the proposed site
and buildings in accurate photo realistic format ensuring that
all details from brick colour to landscape arrangement is
captured and represented as the site will appear.
We are also able to use photomontage effects in 3D walkthroughs
by using satellite imagery available from Google Earth and also
data from Ordnance Survey. The use of movement / animation
combined with photomontage for an existing site with proposed
changes is still a relatively new concept but one that we have
had experience of.
Design Development – Architectural Visualisation
We support our architectural client base with a range of
visualisation services including photomontage. Often this is
associated with funding or marketing support for their clients.
Our work is used at varying levels of detail including low
detail mass modelling through to detailed photo realistic models
which are added to existing site photographs.
Sales & Marketing
One of the key issues affecting sales for a new site is the fact
very fact that a site can look so different once all site
machinery, boarding, temporary road network and site offices are
removed. We assist developers, agents and contractors to
overcome such issues by creating images of the site showing the
new parts as well as the older / pre-existing areas of the site.
We do this with site based imagery, creating realistic 3D models
and then merging both using photomontage techniques and
technology.
to create However, most developers want to sell property before
this is possible and that is where we provide accurate
photomontage services for the sales environment.
By displaying existing areas such as a background and
surrounding landscape to along with computer generated models
and images of the proposed site – complete with finished
landscape and transport network we have enabled developers to
sell property well before completion and in some cases before
any site work has even started.
