Engineer – Projects (Electricals)

This position would require the candidate to work directly with leading electrical contracting firms from Australia/USA/UK, who are involved in some of the flagship projects in their regions.

This job involves the following key roles and responsibilities:

  • Report to the Sr. Manager of MEP Design & Engineering
  • Responsible for the overall design of electrical systems and deliverables, including Concept Design, Schematic Design, Design Development, Tender Design/Documentation (including technical specifications, BOQ, schedules and drawings)
  • Design LV/HV systems to current legislation and codes of practice for various types of buildings based on client briefs and guidelines
  • Work independently on various electrical calculations and power/ lighting/schematic mark-ups as per project requirements
  • Communicate regularly with clients and take on design responsibilities for commercial, residential, retail, laboratory and hospital projects
  • Understand codes and standards local to project locations and utilise the latest, industry-leading software
  • Take on a leadership role, with the potential of growing a team reporting to them

Minimum 6 years’ experience designing electrical systems for commercial, retail, hospital and residential projects, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with a contractor

BE/BTech/ME/MTech Degree in electrical engineering with relevant technical qualifications

This job also involves the following aspects:

  • Independently communicate with clients, stakeholders, leaders and peers in written and spoken English
  • Display leadership skills and mentor junior engineers with respect
  • Train and work on the latest electrical design software
  • Undertake offshore visit to client offices, if required, for detailed training and one-on-one sessions
  • Display positive attitudes, such as flexibility, collaborative nature and empathy
  • Accept and implement constructive feedback
  • Good knowledge of digital engineering, estimating process, commercial aspects of design and installation, site installation and commissioning process
  • Perform value engineering tasks, such as analysing tender documentation and providing technical advice
  • Calculate maximum demand, lighting calculations, submain calculations from tender stage through to construction stage for verification
  • Liaise with the project team, attend client design meetings via MS Teams
  • Create and maintain the SiD register

Produce design documentation from tender to construction stage, including design reports, such as:

    1. Max demand

    2. Submain reports (PowerCAD or similar)

    3. Protection (discrimination and cascading) studies

    4. Lighting reports – including lighting calculations

    5. Sustainability reports – Green Star or equivalent

    6. Miscellaneous manufacturers’ report, such as lightning protection, generator, UPS, etc.

  • Provide ongoing technical advice and fulfill specification requirements
  • Ensure creation and fulfillment of QA plan
  • Coordinate with BIM team when needed

Compensation for this post will be in line with qualifications and experience. It will not be a constraint for the right team member.
